Question

What is rectification? With relevant circuit diagram and waveforms explain the working of a P-N junction diode as a full-wave rectifier.

Solution

Rectifier:The rectifier is an electrical device which converts alternating current to direct current one by allowing a current to flow through it in one direction only.
Working of PN Junction Diode: In the PN Junction diode, when alternating current flows, In first half cycle diode D1 is in forwarding bias, so current flows in diode D1 and diode D2 is in reverse bias and it does not allow to flow the current.
In the second half cycle diode, D2 is in forwarding bias and diode D1 is in reverse bias, so Diode D2 allows to flow the current and diode D1 will not allowing to flow the current.
This process repeats again and again.
So total output is the combination of first half cycle and second half cycle.
So it allows flowing the current in the positive pulse.
