Reflex action:

  1. Reflex action is a sudden and involuntary response to stimuli.
  2. Pulling our hands away immediately after touching a hot or cold object is an example of a reflex action.

Events of reflex action:

  1. It begins with receptor detecting the stimulus or a sudden change in the environment, the stimulus is received from a sensory organ.
  2. Then, the sensory neuron sends a signal to the relay neuron.
  3. This is followed with the relay neuron sending the signal to the motor neuron.
  4. The motor neuron sends a signal to the effector.
  5. The effector produces an instantaneous response.
  6. Example, pulling away of the hand when we touch the hot or cold objects.
