Rennin:

  1. Rennin or chymosin, is a protein digesting enzymes that digest milk protein cassein.
  2. Rennin is synthesised by chief cells in stomach.
  3. It converts casseinogen into insoluble cassein thus also responsible for curdling of milk.
  4. It is secreted in neonatal stomach of ruminants, mammals, cats, etc.
  5. Rennin secretion is maximum in initial weeks of birth, then it gets replaced by pepsin as the major gastric proteolytic enzyme.
