What is repressible operon?

Solution
Repressible operon:
A repressible operon is a type of operon in which the transcription of the gene is repressed by the presence of a particular substance.
It is regulated by a co-repressor i.e., mainly the end product of the metabolic pathway.
Normally repressible operon is on but in the presence of the co-repressor the pathway becomes off.
In the presence of a co-repressor, the transcription is reduced.
For example, tryptophan operon, in the presence of tryptophan
E.coli
doesn't synthesize tryptophan.
On the other hand, the inducible pathway is regulated by the substrate present in the metabolic pathway.

Q.
Is lac operon repressible or inducible?
Q.
Assertion :Lac operon is a repressible operon. Reason: The product of gene activity stops the activity of the said gene.
Q.
In repressible operons, an inactive repressor is normally produced that is activated by the metabolic product (corepressor) of the reaction controlled by the operon enzymes.
