What is resistance and resistivity? Why is the series arrangement not used for domestic circuits? Two resistors R1 and R2 are joined in series. Find the equivalent resistance. [5 MARKS]

Each point: 1 Mark

1. Resistance depends on length, area of cross section and nature of material.
2. Resistivity depends only on nature of the material.
3. If there is a fault in one appliance, supply to all the appliances will get effected.
4. Also not all the appliances will need same current(Ex: Water heater needs more current compared to a filament bulb).
5. Equivalent resistance R=R1 + R2
