Question

What is respiration (explain in details all type of respiration in all organisms)

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Respiration is defined as the process of breakdown of food in the cell with the release of energy.
There are basically two broad categories of respiration.
  1. Aerobic respiration
  2. Anaerobic respiration
Aerobic respiration Anaerobic respiration
It requires oxygen. It does not require oxygen.
Glucose breaks down into carbon dioxide and water. Glucose breaks down into alcohol and carbon dioxide in yeast (and other anaerobes)
Or glucose breaks down into lactic acid in our muscles when we do heavy exercise.
Higher amount of energy is released. Comparatively lesser energy is released.
Food(glucose) + O2 > CO2 + H2O + Energy Glucose >alcohol + carbon dioxide + energy
This happens in anaerobes
or
Glucose > lactic acid + energy
in muscles on heavy exercise.
