  1. Any organic substrate which can be broken down at the molecular level to derive energy in cellular respiration is called respiratory fuel.
  2. Respiratory fuel is a substate or a molecule that can be broken done to produce energy.
  3. The organic nutrients are oxidized during respiration to obtain ATP.
  4. The preference order of the respiratory fuel is as follows- carbohydrates, lipid, and proteins.
  5. Glucose is the primary source of respiration as it completely oxidizes and releases CO2 and H2O and a large amount of energy.
