Question

What is respiratory quotient (RQ) ? Why RQ in anaerobic respiration is infinite?

Open in App
Solution

The ratio of the volume of CO2 given out to the volume of O2 consumed in respiration is called respiratory quotient. In anaerobic respiration, R.Q is infinite because CO2 is evolved without taking O2.
R.Q. = Vol. of CO2/ Vol. of O2 = 2/0 = infinity.
