Retroperistalsis:

1. The reverse of involuntary smooth muscle contractions of peristalsis is called retroperistalsis.
2. It occurs as the reaction of local irritation of the stomach causing vomiting.
3. The major cause of irritation of the stomach causing vomiting is food poisoning and alcohol intake.
4. The irritation of the stomach cause activation of the emetic center of the brain causing vomiting reflux.
5. It can be both physiological and pathological.
