Open in App
Solution

Rhizobium japonicum (Rhizobia):

  1. It is a symbiotic (living in a close physical association), nitrogen-fixing gram-negative bacillus(rod-shaped bacteria).
  2. It attaches to the roots of leguminous plants(plants of the pea family) such as chickpea, lentils, beans, etc., and produces nodules that fix atmospheric nitrogen and convert it into ammonia which is further used by the plant for its growth and development.
  3. It is also a fast-growing and salt-tolerant bacterial species.
