Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Rust of wheat means infection of wheat crops with a fungus. They damage the crop and accounts for crop loss.

Puccinia graminis is the fungus responsible for the black stem rust of wheat. Rust of wheat affects the leaves of the leaf plant only. Very small orange pustules can be seen on the surface of leaves. In some cases these may be surrounded by a white or yellow halo. Spores start falling out giving rise to orangish dust around the plant. As the spores mature , they turn blackish in color.
