Rusting - It is a chemical process in which metals like iron and their alloy gets corroded and form hydrated iron oxide by the action of air and moisture.

The classical example is rusting of iron -

Irons+Moistureg+OxygengHydratedironoxides (rust)

Moisture and oxygen are present in the air.

Conditions for rusting -

  1. High moisture content or contact with water.
  2. Presence of oxygen (air).

Prevention -

  1. By galvanising articles made of iron.
  2. By painting or coating the articles.
