  1. Sago is a stored form of starch (almost pure), consisting of about 88% of carbohydrates, 0.5% of proteins, and minute amounts of fats and vitamin B.
  2. It is extracted from the spongy core tissue of pam trees.

Uses:

  1. It is used as food by the plant itself in absence of photosynthesis (when sunlight is absent).
  2. In the south-west Pacific region, it is used in making pudding, cakes, and soups and as a textile stiffener in industries.
