Question

What is Secondary structure of protein?

Open in App
Solution

There are four basic structural levels of organization of proteins on the degree of complexity of their molecules. The levels are referred to as primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary. Secondary structure is the local spatial arrangement of polypeptide-backbone atoms without regard to the conformations of its side chain. The α helix and the β pleated sheets are the regular secondary structures as they are widespread in secondary structures and composed of widely differing amino acid sequences with repeating patterns.
