What is self-splicing?

Solution

Self-splicing:

  1. Splicing is the process of converting pre-mRNA into a mature mRNA.
  2. In this process, introns or non-coding regions are removed and exons or coding regions are joined together.
  3. Self-splicing occurs when introns act as ribozymes and catalyze their worn excision from the parent RNA.
  4. It occurs in only a small percentage of RNAs.
  5. For example, it is observed in the rRNAs of the protozoa.
