Self sterility or self incompatibilty is the phenomenon in which a plant is unable to perform successful self fertilization i.e, prevents the self pollen from fertilizing the ovules by inhibiting pollen germination or pollen tube growth on the pistil. Since fertilization cannot occur, there is no seed formation.
