Certain characters are not linked to sex chromosomes but are limited to one sex only. Such characters are known as sex-limited or sex influenced traits or characters. In some organisms, some genes are influenced by the sex of the organism i.e. these are expressed more frequently in one sex than the other.

Example, the pattern of baldness in humans which is dominant in male while recessive in females.
