What is sludge? Explain how it is treated.

Open in App
Solution

Sludge is a semi-solid waste, like faeces, that settle to the bottom during wastewater treatment.

Sludge is first removed using a scraper. It is then transferred to a separate tank where anaerobic bacteria degrade it to produce biogas. This biogas can be utilised for cooking, heating, and other purposes.
