What is sodium oxide + water?

Sodium oxide is base anhydride of sodium hydroxide so when water is added to the sodium oxide it gives sodium hydroxide. Sodium oxide is very strong oxide and has strong tendency to react with water.

Sodium oxide react with water exothermically to gives sodium hydroxide which is basic in nature.

Reaction : Na2O + H2O -----> 2NaOH
