Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,

SONAR stands for Sound Navigation And Ranging. SONAR stands for sound navigation and ranging. It is mainly used to measure depth of sea. In this technique, ultrasound/sound is produced and allowed to penetrate into medium. This sound gets reflected and it is receipted(detected) back through receptors. After studying speed of sound in that medium and time needed , distance is measured.
It consists of 2 things:-
Transmitter Detector
Transmitter transmits
ultrasonic waves which travel through the water.after striking an object they return and are detected by the detector which converts the ultrasonic waves into electric signals which can be interpreted. They are used to determine icebergs, submarine, sunken ships, etc.
