Solution

Soot:

  • It is a deep-black powdery or flaky substance consisting largely of amorphous(powdery) carbon.
  • It is chiefly composed of carbon, produced by incomplete combustion(unburnt) of coal, oil, wood, or other fuels due to insufficient air supply.
  • This unburnt carbon remains obtained as small black particles known as soot.
