Question

What is speed?

Solution

Definition

One of the fundamental factors of motion seems to be speed. It is quite different from speed even though it is not simply represented in terms of duration or distance.

  1. The S.I unit of speed is m.s-1.
  2. Example: A car being driven 45milesperhour.

Step 2: Mathematical representation

s=dt

here,

s is the speed.

d is the distance.

t is the time.

Types of speed

  1. Uniform speed: Whenever an item travels the same distance in equivalent time intervals, it is said to be moving at a uniform pace.
  2. Variable speed: Whenever an item travels a varied distance at equivalent time intervals, it is said to be moving at a variable speed.
  3. Average speed: It is defined as uniform speed, which is represented by the proportion of an entity's total distance traveled versus time taken.
  4. Instantaneous speed: The speed of an item at any point in time has been referred to as instantaneous speed.

Therefore, the phenomenon of motion is defined using terminology such as velocity, speed, distance, acceleration, and so on. Motion is defined as a change throughout the location of a moving item at a given point in time or over a specified period of time.
