  1. Alcohols are the hydrocarbons that contain the Hydroxyl group (-OH) as a functional group. For example MethanolCH3OH, Ethanol C2H5OH, etc.
  2. Ethanol C2H5OHwhen obtained by improper distillation usually contains a large amount of MethanolCH3OH. This solution is called Spurious alcohol.
  3. When consumed it has the potential of serious consequences resulting in brain and liver damage and ultimately death.
  4. It can be used as a solvent.
