What is stark effect and zeeman effect

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Stark effect is the splitting of spectral lines of atoms and molecules in the presence of an external electric field.

Zeeman effect is the splitting of spectral lines of atoms and molecules in the presence of an magnetic field.

These two effects were the drawbacks of Bohr's atomic model and resulted in discovery of quantum numbers.
