Solution

Transpiration:

  1. The phenomenon of water loss in plants is called transpiration.
  2. Transpiration takes place through the stomatal pores on the leaves.

Stomatal transpiration:

  1. The stomata are the pores on the leaves that account for the major part of transpiration in plants.
  2. The stomata are surrounded by the guard cells that regulate the pore's opening.
  3. During the daytime, the guard cells have hypertonic cell sap due to the synthesis of glucose by photosynthesis.
  4. Endosmosis of water from the neighboring cells increases the turgor pressure of the guard cells.
  5. The stomata open and allow water vapor to escape into the atmosphere by stomatal transpiration.
