It is a process by which a queen leaves the old hive along with approximately one-half of the workers in that colony and takes a new shelter.
Swarming creates a vulnerable time in the life of every honey bee.
All bees tend to swarm near their hives, so if a swarm is visible, a nest is present nearby.
