Question
What Is Synapsis In Zygotene?
Open in App
Solution
Synapsis in Zygotene:
Zygotene is the second phase in meiosis prophase-1.
It precedes by leptotene stage, during which chromosomes uncoil and condense.
During zygotene, homologous pairs begin to coordinate along their whole length by a precise process termed synapsis.
The synaptonemal complex is formed by ribbon-like protein that holds every pair of chromosomes together.
Pairs of chromosomes then become compacted and coiled during pachytene.
