Question

What is symmetrical charge distribution?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A charge distribution is symmetric if a set of geometrical transformations causes no physical change.
  2. If the density of charge depends only on the distance from a point in space and not on the direction, the charge distribution has spherical symmetry. In other words, rotating the system does not change its appearance.
  3. Gauss' Law holds true for any closed surface of any shape. The only condition for the gauss law to be valid is that the charge distribution is symmetric.
