The Biuret reagent, initially blue in color, consists of Cu+2 ions in an alkaline solution containing OH ions. When mixed with a solution containing protein, it interacts with the peptide bond of proteins to form a purple colored complex known as the Biuret Complex. The reagent is thus, used in the identification of proteins.
