The type of acceleration of the body in uniform circular motion is called centripetal acceleration because it is caused by centripetal force. Since the centripetal force is always directed towards the centre of the circular path, the centripetal acceleration is also directed along it. Velocity of the body in circular motion is always along the tangent to the circular path. Therefore the angle between velocity and acceleration for an object moving in uniform circular motion, is equal to 90 degree.
