What is the application of newtons disc?

The Newton's Colour Wheel/Disk is used for demonstrating how white light is composed of the colours of the rainbow.
some white is also present for a better result when viewing the rotating disk.
In use the disk is rotated while watching the colour of the spinning disk, it will be seen that the resultant white is very close to perfect.
The best result is obtained in daylight rather than under fluorescent lights.
