Total area of each small square $=(\text{side}{)}^2$
$(\text{side}{)}^2=4{\text{cm}}^2$
$\left(\text{side}\right)=2\text{cm}$
Total number of sides of small squares appearing around the boundary of figure = 34
Perimeter of figure = Number of sides × side length
Perimeter of figure = (34 × 2) cm
= 68 cm
Therefore, The area of each small square is $4{\text{cm}}^2$ and the perimeter of the figure is $68\text{cm}$.
