In BCD,
BD2=BC2+CD2=122+162=144+256
=400
BD=20 cm
ABD is an isosceles triangle, then the line AE bisect BD.
BE = 10 cm
In AEB, 262=AE2+102
AE2=262102=676100=576
AE=24 cm
Area of rectangle ABCD = Area of ABD+ Area of BDC
=12×20×24+12×12×16=336 cm2
