Area of the triangle is $\frac{1}{2}\times b\times h$
Here h = 6 cm from figure
b = 2 cm (from the figure the shaded part is ⅓ rd of the base of the square)
$\frac{1}{2}\times b\times h=0.5\times 2\times 6=6sqcm$
And as mentioned the shaded part has twice the area
Therefore it should be equal to 12 sq cm.
