What is the area of triangle ABC in $c m^{2}$

Solution

Given that in triangle $A B C$ $B D ⊥ A C$ at $D$ .
$∴$ $B D$ is the height of $Δ A B C$ from the base $A C$ .
Now $A D = 9 c m$ , $D C = 3 c m$
$A D + D C = A C = 9 + 3 = 12 c m$
Also the height $B D = 4 c m$
$∴ a r Δ A B C = \frac{1}{2} \times$ base $\times$ height $= \frac{1}{2} \times 12 c m \times 4 c m = 24 {c m}^{2}$
