What is the difference between ligands and receptors?
Ligands are the procedure to give the signals and the receptors are the procedure that receives the signals. A details description of these two terms is given below:
Ligands | Receptors |
It is a chemical messenger for transmission purposes. | It is present either on the surface or inside the nucleus. |
It is known as a signalling molecule. | It is known as receiving molecules. |
It exists in the combination of solvent molecules or chelating groups that form coordination compound groups. | It requires a specific chemical structure. |
It is an ion or neutral molecule which is connected to a central atom or ion. | Hydrogen bonding is formed in polar-polar interaction. |
