Cell membrane:

  1. The cell membrane or the plasma membrane is the outer membrane present in all the cells which separates the inside content of the cell from the external surroundings.
  2. It is semi-permeable in nature.
  3. It is responsible for the transport of substances into the cell and also the toxic substances out of the cell.

Composition:

  1. The cell membrane is composed of proteins and lipids.
  2. The bi-layered phospholipids are the lipids to which a phosphate group is attached and have a hydrophilic head and two hydrophobic tails.
  3. Peripheral and Integral are the two types of proteins present on the surface and are partially or totally buried in the membrane respectively.
