Question

What is the central dogma in molecular biology? Name the two processes represented in it. How has it been modified with the discovery of retroviruses?

Solution

The central dogma of molecular biology proposes a unidirectional or one-way flow of information from DNA to RNA transcription and from RNA to protein translation.
The concept was given by Watson and Crick.
DNS transcripted to form and RNA and then m RNA is translated into proteins.
The first step of Central dogma is transcription but in case of reverse transcription, DNA is synthesized from RNA in retroviruses.
The enzyme involved here is reverse transcriptase or RNA dependent DNA polymerase.
