Question

What is the charge of an electron? How many electrons make a coulomb of charge?

Open in App
Solution

The charge of an electron is 1.6×10-19 coulombs
Step 1: Given data

q=1C

We know that charge of one electron, e=1.6×10-19C

Let n be the number of electrons

Step 2 : Calculating the number of electrons in a coulomb of charge

Using q=ne formula

1C=n×1.6×10-19C

n=11.6×10-19n=6.25×1018

Hence,

1. The charge of an electron is 1.6×10-19 coulombs.

2. 6.25×1018electrons make a coulomb of charge.
