Solution

Glycolysis is a common step for both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. It takes place in the cytoplasm and is independant of the presence or absence of oxygen. Two molecules of pyruvic acid/pyruvate is formed as the end product of glycolysis. This pyruvate enters the mitochondria and participates in the aerobic phase of cellular respiration.
