What is the common site of fertilization?

Open in App
Solution

Fertilization:

  1. Fertilization is the process of fusion of the male gamete or sperm with the female gamete or ova to form a zygote.
  2. The sperm passes via the fallopian tube and joins the pellucida layer of the ovum to generate the zygote (fertilized egg).
  3. Therefore, the site of fertilization is the ampullary-isthmic region in the fallopian tube.
  4. A zygote is generated after the egg is fertilized.
  5. The zygote then begins to divide and produces a cell mass known as a morula.
