  1. Haemoglobin is a two-way gasping transporter that transports oxygen to the lungs and returns carbon dioxide from the lungs.
  2. It is a complex globular protein made up of two heme groups and the globin protein.
  3. The globin protein is made up of two alpha subunits and two beta subunits combines.
  4. The subunits of globin part is attached to each other by non-covalent bonds.
  5. The heme group is a type of prosthetic group made up of porphyrin rings.
  6. The porphyrin ring contain ferrous ion in the centre.

Normal range of hemoglobin:

  1. The normal level of haemoglobin for men is 13.8 to 17.2 g/dl.
  2. The normal level of haemoglobin for women ranges from 12.1 to 15.1 g/dl.
