Solution
Pyrenoid:
The pyrenoid is a microcompartment found in algae and hornwort chloroplasts.
Its known purpose is to help the enzyme ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase enhance photosynthetic carbon dioxide fixation.
Composition of Pyrenoid:
They're high in both starch and protein.
Only a few algae have the ability to store food in the form of oil droplets.
Pyrenoids have a thick proteinaceous area that is encased in a starchy sheath.
These are only found in algae chloroplasts and are involved in the polymerization of carbohydrates into starch (reserve polymers).
