Question

What is the correct model is atom?

Open in App
Solution

The correct atom model is the quantum mechanical model which incorporate ideas by Schrödinger, Pauli, Heisenberg etc. It takes many different ideas into consideration. It is the most widely accepted model and is theoretically correct.

The Bohr model is however the easiest to explain for certain things. For example, why are noble gases mostly unreactive or why do Metals have lower ionisation energies? For the purposes like this and for periodic trends, the Bohr model makes it very easy to explain.

Once the basic ideas are understood, people can then progress to the Quantum Mechanical model. Quantum mechanical model is more correct and accurate than any other model.
