Based on the density and temperature, the atmosphere can be classified into five major layers. The lowest layer of the atmosphere is called the troposphere. All the weather-related phenomena occur in this layer. Above this layer lies the stratosphere. This layer is ideal for flying jet aircraft. The third layer is the mesosphere, extending from 50km up to to 80km from the Earth’s surface. The fourth layer is the thermosphere. The layer above the thermosphere is known as the exosphere. It extends from the end of the thermosphere and gradually merges with outer space.
