The actual cell division occurs in eukaryotic cell cycle during what is called the mitotic or M-phase. This phase includes mitosis, which is splitting of the DNA content of a parent cell as well cytokinesis (cytoplasmic division). The remainder of the cell cycle is the phase between two M-phases, termed as interphase. Interphase can be further divided into three successive parts: G1 phase, S phase and G2 phase. Hence, the correct sequence is:
G1⇒S⇒G2⇒M.
