  • A dam is a barrier across flowing water that obstructs, directs or retards the flow of water, often creating a reservoir, lake. Dams are constructed for various purposes like hydroelectricity, water storage, monitoring the river course, etc. If we build a large dam it may create problem among the local people because:
1. Displacement of local people without rehabilitation
2. Loss of livelihood of tribal community
3. Causes serious ecological problems like soil erosion, removal of forest etc.
