Question

What is the decomposition of FeSO4?

Open in App
Solution

Decomposition reaction

  • On heating, ferrous sulphate crystals lose water and anhydrous ferrous sulphate (FeSO4) is formed. So their color changes from light green to white.

Example

  • Ferrous sulphate (FeSO4) in presence of heat breaks down into ferric oxide (Fe2O3), sulpur dioxide (SO2) and sulfur trioxide (SO3).
  • The chemical reaction is as follows,

2FeSO4(s)heatFe2O3(s)+SO2(g)+SO3(g)
