Question

What is the dielectric constant of Plastic?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The dielectric constant is defined as the ratio of the Permittivity of substance in a medium to the permittivity of substance under a vacuum. Mathematically,κ=εε°Whereκisdielectricconstantεisthepermittivityofsubstanceε°isthepermittivityofsubstanceionvacuum.
  2. It is a unitless quantity.
  3. Plastic is of different types so it may show different dielectric constants.
  4. Polar plastics can absorbs moisture from the atmosphere due to which the dielectric constant of such type of plastic increases whereas non-polar plastics are not affected by such kind of environmental factors.
  5. Thus, depending upon the structure of plastic and the material of plastic dielectric constant varies.
