Difference between Cell and Tissue
CELL | TISSUE |
Cells are the smallest, structural and functional unit of an organism, which is characteristically microscopic. | Tissues are the distinct types of material consisting of specialized cells and their products. |
Found in both unicellular and multicellular organisms. | Found only in multicellular organisms. |
Are microscopic. | Are macroscopic. |
Comprise of different cellular organelles, including the nucleus, mitochondria, lysosomes, Golgi apparatus, etc. | Comprise of similar types of cells, specialized for a unique function. |
Two types of cells – Eukaryotic cells and prokaryotic cells. | Four main types of tissue- Epithelial tissue, Connective tissue, Muscular tissue, and Nervous tissue. |
Developed from mitosis and meiosis cell divisions. | Repair through regeneration and fibrosis. |
Functions include Growth, metabolism, and reproduction. | Has its own unique function. A group of similar cells combines together to perform a similar function and to form organs. |
b)Difference between Organ and organism
Organ | Organism |
An organ may be defined as a group of tissues that work together to perform a specific function in an organism. | Any living creature from unicellular to multicellular, whether prokaryote or eukaryote, plant or animal that exhibits specific characters such as growth, nutrition, respiration, reproduction, excretion and reaction to specific stimuli is called organism. |
For example nose and lungs are organs of respiratory system in animals. | Bacteria, algae, fungi, apple tree , Amoeba, birds all are organisms. |
c)An organelle is a tiny specialised structure within a cell which is designed to perform a special function.
While the name means “tiny organ”, an organelle is not an organ. Examples of
organelles include nuclei, golgi bodies, mitochondria and chloroplasts
An organ is made of many cells arranged to form tissues,
which act together to form an organ. Examples of organs include the heart, liver, spleen and the uterus
d)These tissues make up organs (so for example the heart is made up of many tissues). These organs then work together forming organ systems (such as the digestive system, which is made from organs such as the stomach, intestines and rectum) to perform a particular function.
